EASTER Celebration...Finally!

*I know that I am late in posting, however, I have some VERY reasonable excuses which I will not bore you with now.

Easter was a fabulous celebration! My mother-in-law, Maria, had a beautiful spread with strata, biscuits (the best biscuits EVER!), ham, fruit, jellies, MIMOSAS, coffee, and cute bunny decorations and candies. The table was set perfectly...Martha Stewart would have been jealous!

When we arrived, Ronin immediately saw the treats that the Easter Bunny had left for him. He had a great time searching for the eggs no matter what was found inside (cars, toys, money or candy). Ronin ran out of energy before all the eggs were found.

Bluebonnets = SPRING in Texas

The blooming of the bluebonnets inevitably mean Springtime in Texas (it also mean that sweltering HOT temperatures are in our near future!). Because Texans can be a little cheesy, they like to take pictures of their kids in the bluebonnet patches, which sometimes occur on the medians near the highway (This is not the safest place to have your pride and joy running around, but they do it anyway.) In any case, Bill and I jumped on the cheeseball bandwagon and attempted to get some pictures of our son "playing" in the bluebonnets (Ours were at a safe, public park away from highway traffic.) He really did not want to pose for pictures today, so I had to be fast to catch him!

Thomas the Train comes to Texas

Ronin was very interested in trains, specifically Thomas the Train starting before Christmas. Santa brought him LOTS of trains, tracks and other train related "stuff". Since Christmas, Ronin has really shown almost no interest in trains, however, when I asked him if he wanted to go see Thomas, he replied "yes, Mommy!". Bill and I decided that it would be fun for him to go and that it might possibly inspire that love of trains again.

Saturday had been a beautiful day with warm temperatures. Sunday was NOT! It was cold and cloudy, and we were there first thing in the morning. This did not phase Ronin. All he cared about was seeing the live size Thomas the Train and riding it. While we were waiting in line to get on, Ronin kept repeating "I'm ready!". He really enjoyed his first trip on a train. He sang along with the music and clapped his hands with the other children. Afterwards, we walked around checking out other train "stuff" and Ronin saw a Firetruck. He had the biggest smile on his face when he got to sit in the mini truck and talk to the real Firemen. It ended up being the highlight of the morning.

After leaving Grapevine, we were all hungry and decided to stop for breakfast. Ronin must have really worn himself out, because I HAVE NEVER SEEN HIM EAT THAT MUCH! Just a few minutes after leaving the diner, Ronin passed out in the car. He had a great time!

A friend of mine and I decided to check out a new playground at a park near our homes. We thought it would be a good time to picnic and get some action shots of our children. Bringing our lunches, cameras, kids, and jackets (it was a bit windy that day), we set off to Veteran's Park. As you can see from the pictures, we ALL had a great time!

February Snow Days

This has been the snowiest, iciest winter I can remember. Growing up, we never had more than one consectutive snow day. This year, we missed 4 days in a row one week, and the next week we missed one additional day. It has been crazy! Needless to say, it has been fun trying to hold Ronin's attention for that long without really being able to go outside. We played outside for a bit on 2 of the days, but it was so cold, that he was really only good for about an hour each time.

Ronin is playing the drum that Aunt Erika gave him! I told her that if Bill and I got tired of the "music" that we would just send him (AND THE DRUM) up to Chicago to be with her for a few days. Funny thing is, she would probably enjoy it too much and not want to send him home. AND, Mommy and Daddy would miss his fuzzy little head VERY much!

Merry Christmas 2010

Christmas was very enjoyable this year. The celebration was at our house. We had good food, family, presents and a silly toddler running around making everyone laugh. What did we do for entertainment before he got here? I'm really not sure. We also had a great conversation with my sister and Brian's family over Skype. It didn't feel the same without her and Brian here to play dominoes and give Mom a hard time (this is one of mine and Erika's favorite past times....Mom doesn't seem to mind too much either!)
Can you say "SPOILED"? Well, Ronin is just that! Santa, grandparents, Mom and Dad, Aunt Erika, Monica and Ron, and the neighbors all chipped in to help make him ROTTEN.

Each year, I find it important to document our family. Selfishly, I like to go back later and see where we were one year previous. In any case, here we are this year...2010. Monica took our pictures at the Japanese Gardens in Fort Worth. We had a great time running around after Ronin. He lasted for about an hour and then he was DONE! The attention span of a 2 and a half year old is sometimes hard to predict. The pictures turned out pretty good, I think...

Ronin's trip to the Stockyards

Ronin and Mommy went to the Stockyards today since Daddy was studying for his Physics class (we missed you Daddy!) We had so much fun! First we said hello to all the horsies. Then we went to jail, rode ponies, saw a cattle drive and a camel and petted an armadillo. On the way home, Ronin napped....He was pooped!

Trip to TN

We took a road trip to Tennessee this summer to visit David, Ashley and the kids. We drove there over 2 days and spent about 4 days at their house. We celebrated the 4th of July with firecrackers, popsicles and red wine (not for the kids, of course)! We had a excellent time and so did Ronin!

Ronin's First Day of School

Ronin started a Mother's Day Out program. All summer he was terrified of other children. We couldn't go to the playground, the park, or have fun at other "kid" places because Ronin never wanted to play with the other children. Bill and I decided that it was important for him to socialize with kids so that he could feel more comfortable.

He goes to Mother's Day Out at Trinity Methodist Church 2 days a week and gets to learn new songs, meet friends, and play. The first couple days were tough on him and us, but he now enjoys his school time and is even happier to be home with Mommy and Daddy!

Catching Up!

Well, as you can see, it has been a LONG time since I have posted...Ronin has his drivers license and is driving his arthritic parents to the grocery store everyday because we cannot remember what we need for the week.....No, really...

Ronin turned 2 in June and he started school (Mother's Day Out 2 days per week) this August. He is adorable, wiggly, and smart. He is obsessed with anything that has wheels.

Ronin has two teeth!

Ronin has two teeth! They came in about three weeks ago. He has been wanting baby food more and the bottle less. He is getting to be such a big boy!

Ronin is also showing his desire to walk. He stands by the coffee table and the couch. He is wants his independence! Mom and Dad are not ready for that yet. Course, we may not have a choice.

Ronin's First Christmas

Ronin's first Christmas has come and gone. He got a chance to spend some quality time with Aunt Erika and Uncle (soon to be) Brian. It was great to have them in town from Chicago. I am sure that they enjoyed a break from the cold weather.

Bill and I surely enjoyed the time at home with him and family. Although, we all got sick. Matter of fact, Bill ended up at the doctor and Ronin ended up with his first ear infection. Life isn't perfect. But, seeing the pictures, you might think it was!

Four day weekend

Our four day weekend was a great break for us to spend some time as a family. We got some things done at the house, spent some quality time with family, and frooze our tushes off! Our heater went out. We are warm now, but it was definitely an interesting weekend.

I cannot believe the time has gone by so fast! He is already 5 months old and I have been saying I am going to add pictures and entries to this blog. Well, I am just now getting to it. Better late than never.

I will say that Bill and I have really started enjoying parenthood now that Ronin is showing his little personality. We are starting to get the routine down and feel more comfortable. The next task will be trying to find some time for just the two of us again. We don't like leaving him, since we get so little time with him already.
